Seventh in the country* and ninth in the world, UCLA’s math department has a number of highly regarded specialties, as well as professors. With many awards on their lists, these professors produce students who become fellows and award winners themselves.

Standout Professor: Terence Tao
A math genius if there ever was one, Professor Tao has extensive accomplishments. In 2014 alone, he won the Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics, Royal Medal, and was named a Johns Hopkins Distinguished Alumnus. Apparently his expertise shows: “This guy is literally a genius. It’s amazing to learn from him” (RMP).
