Exams, papers, and ghosts, oh my!  You might want to cross these colleges off the list if you can’t handle a good ghost story – they’re known to be the most haunted universities in the country.

5) Fordham University

Last, but certainly not the least scary, is Fordham University in New York City. The university has several spooky stories surrounding its campus but a lot of its paranormal activity is concentrated in Keating Hall. Students have reported permanently cold spots and some people even feel icy hands gripping their shoulders. In one of the shower rooms, the ghost of a young blonde girl is said to appear in the shower before vanishing into thin air.

4) Gettysburg College

Since this college is located on the site of one of the most notorious and bloody battles of the Civil War, it only makes sense a few ghosts roam the property. Students have reported seeing the ghost of a Civil War soldier on top of the Cupola at Pennsylvania Hall, keeping watch over the school.

3) University of Illinois

The University of Illinois is no stranger to abnormal sightings and experiences. One woman is rumored to have committed suicide in the English building after a failed love affair. She reportedly still haunts the halls of the building, slamming doors. Well, there goes majoring in English! While you’re at, nix psychology too. Students have reported experiencing cold spots and hearing whispering voices in the department building.

2) Ohio University

Ohio University definitely earns its ranking as the second most haunted university. One ghost, “Nicodemus,” haunts the sorority house AOPi. The house was once part of the underground railroad and Nicodemus was a slave who was killed trying to escape. In Jefferson Hall, strange occurrences are common as well with the ghost of a teacher found in the attic and toilets that flush by themselves.

1) Kenyon College

And the number one most haunted college goes to…drum roll please…Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio! This school is not for the faint of heart. Just for starters, three of its halls are supposedly haunted. Norton Hall is haunted by the ghost of a student who committed suicide inside; Lewis Hall saw the hanging of a student who reportedly now flushes toilets and knocks on doors; and Manning Hall, the home of a student ghost who is known to rearrange the furniture. The pool building in Bolton Dance Studio is also haunted, plagued by the memory of a deceased swimmer. Wet footprints are often found leading through the locker rooms and lifeguards will hear commotions in the water only to see an empty pool. And that only scratches the surface. The school is home to countless deaths and now ghosts who ensure their memory is kept alive.
