4. Weed Scientist
Careers in agriculture working with weeds? Yes! A weed scientist must identify weeds, learn how to deal with them, and find out how weed killers affect the plants growing alongside them. In this job, research is required in the field and back in the lab to find chemicals effective in eliminating weeds, but not harmful to the environment or humans. Development of new weed control methods and presentation of research findings to both farmers and government agencies is an area of interest for these scientists. After studying biology, chemistry, computer technology, and public speaking in high school, a future weed scientist must earn a master’s degree or Ph.D. in weed science, ecology, or soil science. The job market is very good and a beginning scientist earns about $40,000 annually.
